6pm to 8.30pm
Neighbourhood Safer Place, Stanley, at 6pm for a soup dinner then 10 min drive to a glider location
Free, dinner will be provided.
The Stanley Landcare Group & the Mid Ovens Landcare Consortium invite you to a light dinner, overview of Greater Glider ecology and then a spotlight walk to observe the gliders in our local forest.
Greater Gliders have been listed as threatened under the Federal EPBC act in part due to a significant population decline across their range in Eastern Australia.
The glider occurs foothill to montane forests in North-East Victoria, but its distribution and threats are not well understood. There have been some surveys undertaken for the species in recent years, but these have been limited. The evening is an opportunity to learn more about the species and socialise with like-minded people.
Our presenter is Jim Blackney who has worked for many years undertaking a range of flora and fauna projects. The Stanley Plateau has been surveyed by Jim and friends over several years. A significant population of Greater Gliders has been identified in the Stanley area. Jim also assisted a Swamps Rivers and Ranges project in undertaking night-time arboreal fauna surveys where Greater Gliders were recorded in the Lake Buffalo area.
This is a family friendly event and great fun for children so come along and enjoy the outdoors with us.
Note: there will be a limit to the number of people we can take so please book early to get a place.
