Rivers to the Plains Future Forum

Part discussion, part workshop, the Rivers to the Plains Future Forum is where your journey to the Leading Australia’s Resilient Communities Program (LARC) begins. Hosted jointly by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and the Regional Australia Institute, LARC is an immersive residential program focused on the people, challenges and opportunities in the context of the Riverine Plains.

The Future Forum is a free event with guest speakers including the Regional Australia Institute’s CEO, Liz Ritchie and the Australian Resilience Centre’s Paul Ryan. Liz & Paul will speak to the latest economic and social data specific to your region and step through scenario planning, as well as lead the discussion on the elements of resilient systems. The forum will also focus on how adaptive leadership can arm you with the tools you need to build a positive future for your region.

Join like-minded community members for a focused and deep conversation on how regions can experience tough challenges and emerge even more resilient as a result.

Anyone who is passionate about your community is welcome and places are limited so be quick to book your spot.

Dairy Biosecurity Planning Session - Tallangatta

Agriculture Victoria and Murray Dairy are delivering this interactive workshop for Victorian dairy farmers and service providers outlining current biosecurity risks and step participants through what a biosecurity plan is and why you need one.

There are several risk factors that are contributing to an increased threat of a biosecurity incursion in Victoria and Australia.

On-farm biosecurity control measures will help to protect your farm, your region and the industry while minimising production losses and unnecessary costs.

Everyone has a role in minimising biosecurity risks and impacts to the industry.

  • Emergency animal diseases – overview with a focus on foot-and-mouth and lumpy skin disease
  • What happens during a response locally?

The North East CMA has commissioned a report on Livingstone Creek after the extensive flooding from multiple flood events between September 2021 and January 2022.

This community briefing will be a chance to discuss what is happening in Livingstone Creek with the consultants Streamology and North East CMA staff.

This field day presented by the North East Wine Zone will highlight opportunities to use technology to build your vineyards' resilience in a changing climate. Technologies on show will provide solutions to issues such as disease prevention, water use efficiency, and labour management, while nutrition solutions are also available. Vendors include:

Young Professionals in Agriculture dinner

Riverine Plains invites young Farmers to a special Youth in Ag Dinner at The Sebel Yarrawonga on Friday 2 September from 6:30-9:30pm.

The dinner is funded by the Future Drought Fund and supported by Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and is free to attend for people aged 18-35, who work or study in agriculture. Additional support for the event is being provided by Riverine Plains Inc and Ag Biz Assist. 

The event includes;

  • A two-course meal (drinks available at bar prices)
  • Opportunity to network with other local farmers and industry members
  • Guest speakers including agri-strategist and author, Kate Burke, and ‘The Unbreakable Farmer’, Warren Davies, who will share their journeys of careers in agriculture, improving mindsets and building resilience.
