Katie Peters Reserve at Eskdale will be closed for a week next month while North East Catchment Management Authority (CMA) undertakes habitat works along the adjacent section of the Mitta River.
Forest Fire Management Victoria will close the reserve to the public, including anglers and campers, between Monday, 19 April and Friday, 23 April while the works are underway with the support of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.
Campers and visitors are being asked to vacate the site before 7.30am on Monday, 19 April to allow the work to commence.
The project to restore fish habitat and increase the fish population in the Mitta River received $39,381.20 in 2020 from the Victorian Government’s Recreational Fishing Large Grants Program.
North East CMA is installing large rocks (rock seeding) and timber structures (known as LUNKERS) in the river at Katie Peters Reserve to create overhead cover and resting areas for the fish.
The North East CMA has support from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning; the Murray-Darling Basin Authority; Crown Land Management; and Goulburn Murray Water for this project.
