NECMA response - Barnawartha & Indigo Valley fire

DECEMBER 2015

In response to the Barnawartha / Indigo Creek fire event, North East CMA has undertaken initial field assessments of priority waterways within the fire impacted area in coordination with emergency response agencies.  Based on preliminary assessment the fire has impacted the Upper reaches of Black Dog Creek, isolated parts of Indigo Creek and adjacent catchment areas.

Ongoing monitoring of this area is planned over the coming weeks and months to further assess impacts and determine the most appropriate management throughout the recovery phase. Members of the public or landholders wishing to report a waterway health issue (such as erosion, washouts, etc.) may contact North East CMA on 1300 216 513.
As a precaution, landholders and residents downstream of fire impacted areas of Black Dog Creek and Indigo Creek are advised that after significant rainfall, some discolouration of waterways may occur due to increased ash and sediment loads, over the coming weeks.
