Expressions of interest now open to join North East CMA’s Sustainable Landscapes Advisory Committee

Background
The Sustainable Landscapes Program (the Program) at the North East CMA focuses on building community capacity and delivering on-ground action to increase the adoption of productive, sustainable and adaptive land management principles. Key project areas include sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, natural capital and carbon management on farms.

The Program will deliver environmental, cultural, social and economic outcomes collaboratively with land managers, Traditional Owners/First Nations Peoples, Landcare and not-for-profit groups, agencies, local government, Australian and State government departments.

The Program was recently formed by the North East CMA to coordinate delivery of funding and activities across multiple projects in the sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation and natural capital themes. This allows for more efficient delivery and engagement processes, leveraging of knowledge and networks across projects, and increased scale and consistency of on-ground action across the catchment.

Sustainable Landscapes Advisory Committee
To guide the delivery of the Program, the North East CMA is seeking to establish the Sustainable Landscapes Advisory Committee. The primary purpose of the Advisory Committee is to provide broad representation of the different agricultural industries, local landscapes and communities, and various industry/organisations involved in land management and climate resilience in the Ovens Murray and North East CMA regions. The Committee will provide strategic guidance on priorities, engagement and delivery process for North East CMA projects. This includes two new projects: the Ovens Murray Drought Resilience Plan implementation and the Climate Smart Agriculture in North-East Victoria. Other projects include the Sustainable Irrigation Program, Carbon Outreach Program and the Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator role.

The Advisory Committee will operate in accordance with the attached Draft Terms of Reference– to be agreed upon by the committee following the first meeting. It is envisaged that the committee will meet 2-4 times per year and that meetings will be kept to 3 hrs in length and as succinct as possible. Members of the Advisory Committee who are not in a paid role with their organisation or group may be able to request payment of a sitting fee for attendance at each Advisory Committee meeting.

The first meeting is scheduled for Monday 24 March 2024 (10am to 1pm) online or in-person at Beechworth or Wangaratta (venue TBC).
