This project is focussed on the Livingstone Creek, Omeo and has been underway since 2022 (complete 2025). It will restore critical habitat for the Macquarie Perch in the lower reaches of Livingstone Creek and address habitat loss from mining and agriculture. This will be achieved by installing in stream habitat (large wood and boulders), fencing off the waterway and revegetating the riparian zone. The total project area covers 15km of waterway and complements the $5m Greening Australia investment in revegetating the Omeo Valley.
.
This Project will introduce new habitat to critical reaches on the Livingstone Creek for ecologically threatened native fish including Macquarie Perch. It aims to enhance habitat quality and abundance by introducing woody habitat, installing rocky refuge, and using waterway stabilisation techniques to mitigate impacts of historic agriculture and mining. It will collaborate with environmental, local fishers and traditional owner groups to deliver on ground revegetation and weed control works to increase recreational and cultural waterway value. By reintroducing stable native vegetation, the project will reestablish a source of woody habitat (fallen trees) and reliable external food source for native fish.
